Our Story

We’ve loved every minute of our journey!

Our dance studio started as a dream....

Having loved dancing and attended dance classes from a very young age, Jenni's experience  of being taught dance was not always completely enjoyable. As a very energetic and creative child, her own individual style and passion for dancing was not always aligned with the dance 'norm', nor was her physical appearance. Emerging from this personal experience, a dream to create an alternative dance  environment for excellence and enjoyment to be fused, started to emerge.

...and the dream just grew and grew...

After being involved in dance, music and drama throughout her education, Jenni left school and went to Keele University to embark on a  Paediatric Nursing Degree. This did absolutely nothing to quench the powerful appetite to dance and to perform, and the dream to create an inclusive environment for dance just grew....

Being mindful of advice to pursue professional qualifications in dance , Jenni successfully completely a BA (Hons) in Dance at Manchester Metropolitan University, going on to study Street Dance in London with Matt Lopez, (Broadway Dance Centre) Fred 'the realness' Folkes, Mechanikool, Stuart Bishop (The Rudeye Dance Agency)  and later with Darcey Bussell at the Royal Academy of Dance.

...Studio S officially begins!

Studio S started its life in a variety of church halls in and around Alsager, until the new Studio was ready to use in 2015.

Once the new building was ready, a weekly class timetable was offered, with a heavy emphasis on empowering children and young people to perform, believing that the experience is invaluable in a multitude of ways.   Jenni has been extremely successful in creating an environment at Studio S, where children and adults can enjoy dance, music and performance, free of any pressure to conform to any perceived 'norm'. At the same time, those who demonstrate exceptional talent and commitment are nurtured and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Our 'Multi-Media'

Dale Gough, whose 'day job' involves a very busy role as Security Systems Consultant for The Senate Group, has worked tirelessly with Jenni to ensure that Studio S  theatre productions benefit from a  highly creative and technical 'multi-media' element. Dale has been involved in local theatre productions for many years and is extremely creative technically,  also being a very talented musician. He is responsible for the amazing visual effects, lighting and video, which combined with music, give our performances  a stunning extra dimension. Dale has played a vital role in transforming the dream into reality!

Our People

The Senate Group, which is the parent company of Studio S, has a team which provides professional support in terms of : compliance, administration, technical and classroom assistance. All of our staff receive training in: first aid, safeguarding, chaperoning and much more, they are also DBS checked of course. Some of them also get involved in the dancing...

Our Teaching Staff

The collective qualifications of our teaching  staff are impressive, but our teachers are recruited  not simply based on their  technical skills (we expect them to be brilliant!) but on their abilities to ensure that every person  is supported and encouraged not just to reach their full potential but  to enjoy dance and all that it has to offer them. Dance is for everyone at Studio S!
